Built Around Nature - Stunning Composite Deck in Mandeville

Built for a client in Mandeville last year, this cascading deck showcases the virtues of WPC (Wood-Plastic Composite) decking planks from C&R Interiors. With its five levels and several staircases, including one spiral flight, this project is a beautiful example of the complex designs that we can achieve. But what really sets it apart is that the design incorporates the lush tropical trees, perfectly complementing them with its natural texture and rich brown colour.

Covering an area of over one hundred square-meters and standing over two meters high at its furthest point from the ground, its frame is built from treated pine, erected by our skilled contractors. Using treated pine protects the frame from rot and from insect infestation, but even good materials would mean little without well thought out and executed construction. Thus, our team plans and works carefully to provide a stable, reliable platform for the deck surface.

Moving on to the surface, few other materials would be so perfectly suited to this application. While the lush shade trees provide a beautiful canopy, they also attract destructive insects that would quickly rot natural wood. This however is not a concern with WPC. There is also no need for sanding and staining as there is with natural wood, and the surface does not fade, stain, or splinter either. All this makes WPC decking a wonderfully low-maintenance product and an excellent performer in our Caribbean climate.

But what good would an outdoor area be if it didn’t look good? Or what good if it didn’t feel good? That’s the great thing about our decking – It looks good to the eye, and it feels good to the touch. With its wood-texture and rich, variegated (meaning ‘non-uniform’) colour, it blends seamlessly with the surrounding plant life. With its coextruded surface (meaning that the raw wood-fibres in the composite core are covered by a textured plastic surface) it feels smooth and firm under foot and is simple to keep clean.

Today, the finished deck has become a natural extension of the client’s home, providing generous spaces for relaxing, entertaining, and enjoying the cool shade beneath the trees. Rather than competing with the landscape, it works in harmony with it, proving that thoughtful design and quality materials can enhance the beauty that's already there while creating an outdoor space that will be enjoyed for many years.
